Favorite Wine Tasting Experience at Domaine Carneros

Contributed by Meriha Eby - My favorite wine tasting experience was at Domaine Carneros.  It was  for my 23rd birthday. The reason I chose this place was because my favorite wine is sparkling wine and that is what they specialize in. Also I love the location and how beautiful the scenery is. I had my closest friends and family and my boyfriend come and it was perfect. We sat on the outside terrace so we could see all the gorgeous vineyards surrounding us. My favorite sparkling wine from there was the Blanc De Noir.  They usually sell out of this [...]

My First Wine Experience in the Gardens of Ferrari Carano

Gardens of Ferrari Carano Contributed by Araceli Campos - I wasn’t introduced to wine until I immigrated to the United States. I was born and raised in Michoacán Mexico until I was 10 years old. Mexico is not known for producing much wine, though they do make it in the Baja Peninsula. Therefore, I had never seen a bottle of wine before – even though my dad worked in the vineyards of California. It wasn’t until I arrived in the US that I started seeing wine on the shelves in grocery stores, at special events, and holiday gatherings [...]

My Favorite Tasting Room Series: Stephen & Walker’s, Healdsburg, CA

Stephen and Walker Tasting Room (By Guest Author Emily Mobley) As soon as I walked into Stephen & Walker’s Wine Tasting Room located in Healdsburg, I knew I was going to have a good time. Enticed with excitement and enjoying the atmosphere of summer, I could not wait to have my first sip of “real” wine. I had recently turned 21, and wine was still a mystery to me. What was so special about it? “Real” wine was everything I didn’t know and was looking forward to experiencing. It was August and my neighbors invited me to go wine tasting [...]

My Favorite Tasting Room Series – Del Dotto Vineyards

Tasting in the Caves of Del Dotto Winery (By Guest Author Lauryn Mitrovich) My favorite tasting experience occurred in Napa Valley.  It was my boyfriend’s birthday, and his parents rented us a fabulous limo to drive to several wineries. The one that really stood out to all of us was Del Dotto Vineyards. We arrived at the cave and barrel tasting location for Del Dotto and were greeted by our guide Brandon. Brandon had taken the parents on a tour before and they had an amazing time so they specifically asked for him again. Obviously, something stuck out [...]

My Favorite Tasting Room Series – Testarossa Winery

Testarossa Winery (By Guest Author Nicholas Giampaoli)  Growing up in the city of San Jose, I was not very familiar with wineries. I always figured that wine came from Sonoma and Napa County. After coming to Sonoma State and becoming more familiar with wine country, when I visited home I wanted to check out some local wineries. I had no idea they even existed in the south bay until I did a web search. During my web search I came across Testarossa Winery. It turned out that the winery is very historic and is considered the fourth oldest [...]

My Favorite Tasting Room Series – Pride Vineyards in Napa and Sonoma

Tasting at Pride Vineyards (By Guest Author Daniel Walsh)  It was the middle of January in 2012 with open skies and a beautiful coastal breeze in the air.  Two coworkers and myself had made an appointment a month prior to visit Pride Vineyards and Winery on Spring Mountain.  The tasting room was located on the estate, sitting atop the mountain, which is split between the Sonoma/Napa county lines.  Upon arrival, we entered the tasting room and were greeted with a glass of their estate viognier and the Hospitality Manager, Mike Campbell, who lead us on a tour of [...]

Tolosa Winery – A Favorite Millennial Tasting Room

(By guest author Pete Lobash) Tolosa Winery is located in San Luis Obispo (www.tolosawinery.com). I went here with some friends and had a great time. Tolosa has a tasting room some wineries would die for! Think of an extremely nice wine bar and then add even more. On entry of this tasting room I immediately noticed how modern looking everything was. In most tasting rooms a rustic or Italian look is sought after -- yet at Tolosa it’s all about a contemporary look. This room really caters and attracts those from the ages of twenty one to mid thirties. I really [...]

Ross Valley Winery – A Millennial Favorite Tasting Room

(By guest author, Angela Atkinson)  One of my favorite winery tasting rooms is a small, locally owned and operated winery in downtown San Anselmo.  It has provided customers with some great wines since 1987. The winery has a warm and inviting tasting room in the front, but behind the scenes in back is where the alchemy happens -- truly a very cool place. The tasting room has a large vaulted ceiling giving in an open and spacious feeling while still feeling welcoming and unique. There is a small retail area with bottle openers, stoppers, and art from local artists. At the Ross [...]

Little Vineyards – A Favorite Millennial Winery

(By guest author:  Alyssa Auerbach)  Little Vineyards Family Winery is located on Highway 12 next to B.R. Cohen. It is a very small family owned and operated boutique winery specializing in handcrafted reds. The winery is somewhat hidden from the highway and has a very rustic and peaceful feel. It is only $5 to taste their fleet of current releases which includes Band Blend Track 3 (a red blend), 2006 Zinfandel, 2005 Syrah, 2006 Center Stage (a Bordeaux blend), and a 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon; the tasting fee is waived if you make a purchase. The tasting room is very small [...]

Favorite Millennial Tasting Room – Ferrari-Carano

(Written by guest author, Nyk King). I have been all over Sonoma County from tasting room to tasting room and there is one place that stands out in my mind as being the pinnacle of the Sonoma County wine experience.  That tasting room is Ferrari-Carano, which is located at the north end of Dry Creek road.  The tasting room has you in awe before you can even finish parking your car.  There are huge swinging iron gates at the entrance.  After you follow the road down to the parking lot, you will walk up the long path to the tasting [...]

Truett Hurst Winery – A Favorite Millennial Tasting Room

(Written by guest author, Chris Spradling). Truett Hurst Winery is located in Dry Creek Valley. They are a relatively small winery with an emphasis on Biodynamic farming. I visited this winery during the barrel tasting weekend, and although I visited many on that day, Truett Hurst stood out from the others. The tasting room was nice and not too crowded, and outside was plenty of seating looking at the vineyards. There was a barbeque right outside of the tasting room where delicious samples of tri-tip were being distributed. The employees at Truett Hurst were noticeably proud and enthusiastic about their [...]

Lucas Winery – Favorite Millennial Tasting Room

(Written by guest author, Kate Nelson). The most memorable wine tasting experience of the wineries that I have visited in the past few months has been at Lucas Winery in Lodi, California.  Lucas offered the best wine tasting experience for me for many reasons. The staff at Lucas was extremely friendly and inviting -- and even for our Designated Driver made the experience enjoyable. We were welcomed right away upon entering. The tasting room was open and bright, and the bar was large and accommodating so that many different groups of people would still feel individual attention and not feel [...]

Millennial Favorite Tasting Room – Benziger

(Written by guest author, Jessica Schmidt).  Benziger is a beautiful property and receives much sunlight throughout the day! The tasting room is not right at the entrance as it is laid out to see other nature qualities to notice before the wine!  However, when you step inside the tasting room it is well laid out and with plenty of exciting merchandise.  The tasting bar is to your left as you walk down the few steps at the entrance.  The counter tops and wine racks are all a dark cherry oak to make the focal point of the room.  There at [...]
